Happy Christmas - and Shopping Etiquette

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 22, 2010, 9:29 PM
I know, I know, everyone on DA is going to be posting Holiday Wishes and it can be kind of monotonous, but I'm going to add mine anyways!

For me, this is a busy time at work. We get very busy for Christmas, and we have to not just sell goods, but we have to MAKE them.  99% of our customers are amazing, but then there is always that 1% that make you shake your head - but I'm not going to go into that here.  Instead I will give you a short list of things to keep in mind while you are out preparing for your Christmas Celebrations.

a)  People working in stores, etc are people just like you.  They also have to buy gifts that cost money, have to find the right things, have people who are impossible to shop for, have to cook Christmas dinner, wrap their presents, all the while attending little Johnny's hockey games.  You are not the only one experiencing Christmas this year - it comes to us all and it's ALWAYS on the 25th of December.

b)  People working in stores are well aware of the date, and while you may be making an unreasonable demand to have your product manufactured or ordered in because it's imperative to the joy of your Holiday Season, in 2 days time, they are likely wondering why you didn't do this 2 or even 3 weeks ago.

c)  If you are kind to the people working in the stores, they will be more likely to want to try harder to help you.  If you are mean to them, do you REALLY expect them to go our of their way to make YOU happy if you just trashed their day?

d)  It doesn't take 3 days to wrap a gift.  Seriously.  You absolutely NEED it on the 20th because you need to WRAP it??  Are you a 3 toed sloth or what??  Maybe you need some time management classes.

e)  I"m sorry - but if I say I can't get that in time..... it means I can't get it in time.  I can't magically snap my fingers, wave my magic wand, or even go out back and eat a tree to poop out the wood moulding you just LOVE but can't have because you weren't here 3 weeks ago.  My name is not Genie and I do not live in a bottle or look great in belly button harem pants.  No matter how much you demand, stomp your feet, whine or give me puppy eyes, I just cannot grant you your wish.  I can grant you the wish of an in stock frame, but that's the best I can do.

f)  Let's all just remember that Christmas is a time for love, understanding, kindness, generosity (of the heart) and joy.  For so many people it becomes about stress, money, bitterness, and anger.  If we all try to make it good for everyone else, it will be good for us too.  I will try to remember my own advice over the next few days, as I know that I am stressed out as well.

So, enough of that!   I wish all of my friends a peaceful holiday season.  I wish all good things for you, and that the New Year will bring happiness, love, prosperity and joy to you!!

Thank you for your support and friendship in 2010 - it's the people here that keep me coming back to DA every day!

I'd suggest you post this by the cash register, but the people who are like that are the last ones to realize it applies to THEM.

But best wishes for the Winter Solstice, and Happy New Year to you! :iconasnowmanplz:
