I'm thrilled to bits with placing second, and I thank anyone who voted for me, Marcus for hosting the contest, and congratulations to the two other winners!!!
So... what else is new? Well, I got a new tripod for Christmas!!! It's much sturdier than my old one and I think that it will hold my camera more securely in the vertical position. My old one slid and it was just a PITA trying to keep it solid. I haven't even had a chance to try out he new one really - because it's been so darned cold out - but I'm looking forward to using it!
The other day I went and bought a back up drive for my back up! My computer is just getting too full now that I'm shooting RAW, and I have been backing up to an external, but I think I need to remove the pics from my computer all together, which would mean that I only have them on the back up drive. So I've decided to back up the back up and remove them from my PC. First I want to go through all my old files and delete the crap photos - no sense in storing crappy ones - and that is going to take me a while. I did a few months worth last night and it's a bit slow going. The good news is that I think I've found a few decent shots that I somehow missed the first time around, or just plain old forgot about!
I realize that the New Year has started for many of us around the globe, but here in Canada it's still the morning of the 31st! We have a whole day ahead of us - the last of 2010. 2010 has been a good year for me, so I can't say I'm dying to see it go like many others are. Honestly though,I don't put a lot of ceremony into the New Year change over. We will be having a quiet evening tonight. We'll probably have some snacks (dear son has requested something healthy due to the gluttony of the holidays) and watch a movie or something to that effect.
My very best wishes for you for 2011! Thanks for being a part of my 2010!!

Wishing you much Joy and Happiness for 2011
I treated myself this year to a fancy Flash gun and diffuser - can I just say that the diffuser is HUGE! You could eat cereal out of it! Not that I've tried... the hole in the bottom would just make it so messy
I'm hoping to get a 50mm prime lens for my B'day in feb! Fingers crossed!
I don't enter very many - but I have so many winter photos that I just had to enter this one!
I haven't got either of those things. I'm at a bit of a loss when it comes to buying new equipment - I don't know what's good or what's not - what kind to buy for my camera, how to use it.... I really should though.
I keep wondering about getting a new lens - but again, I haven't a clue what to get and with having the camera I do, it's hard because the auto focus motor is in the lens, not the camera, so I have to be careful what kind I get!
I keep thinking I might like a macro lens though....
I've never bought a flash or the like before, so I was taking a gamble really, but I figure that if I stuck to the Sony brand (seeing as I have a Sony camera) I couldn't go wrong - got an amazing deal on it too! God-bless main stores having ebay stores now too! Their clearance sections can hold little gems!
I want to get into more portrait work, so a 50mm prime would be awesome. You hear of ppl raving about them all the time and at first I wasn't sold on them, then my friend put his on his cannon and I had a peek and the quality and sharpness on it just blew me away! So now I HAVE to get one! I still have about £40 left from my Christmas pennies so I need to save about £70-80 more and I'll be able to get me one
I don't really like to manual focus because my eyes aren't very good and I don't trust myself to be able to tell when it's in focus!
I was looking at a flash today, second hand, but someone warned me that you really need to be careful, because if the person you buy it from used it a lot, it may not have many more flashes left in it. Something to think about....
I've been thinking about a Prime lens too - I've seen a few shots with them that are so damn sharp and clear that it just drives me nuts with envy!! I'm going to keep looking......... the problem is that I also need a new computer soon - mine is getting old and it's just not powerful enough to run photo shop quickly. It runs out of memory when I do anything that's big. Plus, there is so little storage on it - I have to keep getting back up drives to keep my photos on - shooting RAW really makes big files and it takes up a lot of space!
And I agree with a smaller body - I have tiny hands and my sony fits perfectly in them. I held my friend's Cannon and I was like, how the hell do you reach the button???
Tell me about computer space! My husband bought a new 2tb external hard drive at Christmas so I got his old 500gb one (I cannot believe I managed to store my pictures, games and writings all on my internal hard drive!) and already I need a bigger one as I've started shooting in raw, keeping the rawr AND making a JPEG copy... it's a nightmare! I think my storage DVD's are going to have to come out soon.
I've never heard of that - I"ll have to check it out. Yeah, my friend has a larger Nikon and it's so damn heavy that my wrists get sore and I have a hard time reaching all the buttons too!
I went and ordered myself a new computer -I should have it on Wed or Thurs. It's going to be a pain at first to get everything all set up again, but it will be so nice to have a FAST computer that handles PS. This one I have is a good one, but it's just outdated and isn't meant to give the kind of power these big graphic programs need. THe RAW files ARE really big and take up tons of space, so I should have lots of room for it all now. I'll still back up to an external hard drive though - you never know when a crash will happen
Happy New Year!
