I Need Help!!

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 31, 2011, 8:51 PM
ok.......

I have a new computer!  yay!!

However - I now have a few problems - one of them being that I can no longer view my RAW or NEF files in the thumbnails when I use the Picture Viewer.

I use Bridge to open my files but I really like being able to just quickly find things using the Viewer.  I used to be able to view the thumbs on my old computer.

I've installed the Codec from the Nikon website but it doesn't do anything.  I've installed the soft wear that came with my camera and it still doesn't do it.  Now I just have unwanted junk that I didn't want to put on in the first place...... ugh!

So.......... any suggestions my camera wizard friends??!!  (I now have Windows 7)

I'm finding it a bit of a learning process to do a few things, such as:  moving files - but I think I've figured out the secret tonight, so I'll see what happens the next time I have to do it.

I love the newness of it......... but I don't love the learning part :(

So, I quit another of my groups today!  yep - felt good!~

The weather warmed up here quite a bit last week - it was wonderful - for a whole week we had warmer than -10 C.  The only problems is that our roof at work decided to leak.  Our landlord was out of town so we had to just deal with the water.  Not a good situation in our business - seeing as everything we do is water sensitive!  There was one night I was thinking I may have to take a sleeping bag down there for the night to keep an eye on things.  Sorry - don't need any water dripping on our $25,000.00 mat cutter!  yikes!!

Talk about stress.

So, I'm thinking about getting my hair cut.  It's the longest it's been since I was a child (mid upper back) and I like it that way, but I find that I have to always wear it pinned up because I can't stand it hanging in my eyes.  So........ really, what's the point of keeping it long?  I just can't decide what to do with it.  My face is shaped like a box and somewhere along the line I've lost my jawline.  I need to find it again.........  soooo - tomorrow hubby and I are starting a new weight loss plan and I will need all the will power I can get - so please, send me some good vibes to keep my strength up!

Thank you for the support my friends, I  you all, and please enjoy the work of these very fine and talented artists:

Nikon RAW does not support the 64 bit versions of windows. There are third party software out there that might fix the problem. Try "FastPictureViewer WIC RAW Codec Pack" [link] Works great with Vista64.

Glad i could help. I have not been able to find any free tool that solves the PSD files for 64bit win, but [link] should solve it for 32bit versions.

Later versions of "WIC RAW Codec Pack" [link] might work for psd files as well, but it costs $14.99 per licence. My previous [link] was an older free version.

I have that problem too! When I was using XP the camera software from Sony allowed me to view thumbs of the ARW files (Sony's RAW extension) but on Win 7, even with the same software, I don't get thumb views anymore.

One work around I kinda have is to go to photoshop (CS5), click open and then click on the images just once. This *should* bring up a little thumb image at the bottom of the open window.

What camera do you have? I had the same problem when I upgraded to Nikon D7000. As of now not even OSX is able to view the thumbs. But if you have an older camera it shouldn't be a problem. I would recommend this site [link] for codec. It is better than the native Nikon codec and may solve your problem :)

wish i could help ???? i'm still on XP
but i shoot a JPEG and RAW side by side just so i can see what the RAW is on my viewer....i like using PS, but they will show up in lightroom as a thumbnail (pic) i just don't feel at home in lightroom.
i think ifranview (it's free) will show NEF's ? as a pic
and just uninstall that unwanted junk
