Shooting People

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 26, 2011, 8:45 AM
I just really needed to clear my last journal off.  Short lived it was!!!!  ;)  Thank you, my friends for your kind comments and all the wonderful hugs!

The other day I got a phone call from a friend asking me to take some family photos of them for their son's grad.  My first response was "but.... I don't shoot people!!"  But, I have a hard time saying no and I figured it might be fun to get a little practice in and see what I could do, so I agreed to give it a try!

I got there a little before hand and scouted out the area looking for some good places to shoot and then we got on with it.  Now, it was hot and humid and the guy wasn't very excited about getting his picture taken so I really had to hurry and didn't get a chance to do some of the more interesting stuff I had in mind.  Still, it turned out ok and the photos I think, aren't too bad.  Pretty basic, but not bad.

It was really different shooting people and while I was really nervous (had the whole.... I just peed.... why do I feel like I need to :pee: again already??!!  oh yeah.... nerves!!)   I rather enjoyed it!    I told my son that I was shooting his friend's grad and that next year for his grad I was going to shoot him too..... he really liked that! ;)

So.... speaking of grad, my son's girlfriend is graduating on Monday.  So..... I figured he should look nice so I took him out last weekend and bought him his very first suit!  It was a different experience.  He looked so grown up in it and it fit him so nicely.  I got a quick glimpse of him in the future, as a man and it brought tears to my eyes.  :happycry:  Then when I had to pay for it all (suit, shirt, shoes)  THAT really brought a tear to my eye!! :omfg:  They grow up so fast.....

Here's a tip for any young men who may read this.....  if you are taking your girl to a formal event - such as grad - you NEED to buy her a CORSAGE!!!  Yes - it's still the thing to do.  I asked sonny this a few weeks ago and he said no - then he comes to me last night saying "where can I buy one??"  um.... it's Sunday tomorrow and Monday is the grad , you dumb ass!  good luck!!  :slow:

Speaking of dumb asses, last night I was sitting here at my computer when suddenly, RIGHT OVER MY head a HUGE crashing sound of something hitting the floor.  HUGE.  The house shook.  I froze just waiting to hear the after math and what did I hear but my two kids freaking out??  So I ran up the stairs to find that my youngest dropped a whole 4 liter jug of MILK from the top shelf of the fridge and it exploded all over the hard wood floors!!  yikes!! so we had bath towels, etc out and had to practically had to wash everything within a 20 foot splatter zone... and my house is not large so that means practically the whole kitchen/living room.  I have to wash the dog's bed today and it seems as though the floor is still a little sticky so I guess I'll have to do that again too.  Dammit!!!    Way to go kid!!      Now where is my gu.... ah..... camera?  I feel a shooting coming on...

Ahhhh well - today is looking pretty cloudy and calling for rain (again) so I guess I'll get some work done inside the house and just relax.  I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday.  I am going to repeat yesterday's features, seeing as they were up for such a short time - but I'll add a few new ones that I've collected since then.  Love to you all!

wow the social life of italian students is much less complicated and much more informal :D But I'd love a corsage...whatever it is, LOL.

I understand you about shooting people. I did it a couple of times for friends' weddings...and I felt much more nervous shooting their weddings than I did getting married myself :D

I'm a master of accidents in the home and unfortunately I know very well the smell of sour milk

Thank you so much for the feature, Sandra! I'm honoured

LOL! A corsage is a tiny flower arrangement that a man gives a woman for a formal event. They are traditionally pinned to your lapel or upper chest area, but for events like this they are commonly worn around the wrist almost like a bracelet.

You probably have something similar - but maybe you call it something different in Italy!

I used to work in a studio a thousand years ago and I "assisted" on weddings (meaning I was a pack mule) and I really enjoyed that part. I was also to keep my eyes peeled for crooked ties, necklaces, stray hairs, etc. It was fun but no pressure because I wasn't the photographer. But being the one behind the camera is a whole other story!! I suppose it's better now with digital - but then we were all film and until those negatives were developed it was kind of nerve wracking! I've forgotten so much about posing, etc!!

Ugh - sour milk...... makes me think of baby puke! yuck!!!

You're welcome for the feature! I really love those humerous shots of yours!! You've got a great eye!

ah thank you for the explanation about the corsage :D I saw them in many american films buy it doesn't exist such a thing in Italy. In Italy the tradition is to make the graduated student wear a bay wreath on the head. And the celebrations are quite similar to a het or stag party

LOL! well, yes, the celebrations are quite something here too! We have created a thing called "safe grad" which means that the students are signed in, and are not allowed out until a responsible adult, who has signed up ahead of time, is there to pick them up and drive them home. It has saved a lot of lives that would have otherwise been lost to drunk driving.

I saw a couple of the grad pics and they turned out great! Nice work chickadee!

LOL - it wouldn't be motherhood without a few big "spills" - it's like they haven't quite developed their motor skills yet :slow: but then again we know that can't be true after watching them play video games!
About a year ago though I was the clumsy one and dropped a jar of spaghetti sauce on the floor while I was putting groceries away. That shit splattered EVERYWHERE - even on our (9ft) ceiling! Even after I thought I got it all, I was still finding random splatters in the strangest places - that stuff can travel!
Hubby got a power washer for Father's Day, and he was out using it this weekend, and I thought 'I could really use one of those inside the house....' that would be awesome.

Thanks Le!!

Well, he didn't so much drop it as when he was helping me unload the groceries and put the milk away. Only thing is the shelf was full so he just pushed it in and closed the door. So then when he opened the door again later............ SPLAT!!!

I have to agree though on why can they move their fingers like that on the video games but when it comes to doing anything else they are so clumsy?

Ugh! Spaghetti sauce! yesh!!! I've often wondered why we don't build kitchens water proof so they can just be hosed down. Wouldn't it be great??!!!

I remember one time my mom was trying to open a jar of sour kraut and the lid wouldn't come off so she started banging on it with a butter knife and the jar exploded! It was EVERYWHERE and SO STINKY!! It was hanging of the cupboard and the ceiling and then she turned and looked at me and she had a chunk hanging off her glasses! Oh my Gosh it was hilarious!! SHe was mad and laughing all at the same time!!

Ah - well at least he help you put away the groceries! My girls "help" by taking only the things out of the bags they want to eat. lol

They really should make kitchens like that! I have a friend with a bathroom kinda like that... not even an enclosure for the shower which I think is really cool.

Sauerkraut - omg - of all the things! Ewww! That does sound pretty funny though - I bet it was a lot of fun cleaning it up! :iconteheplz:

LOL! well, they USED to do that until I freaked out one day and told them if they wanted to eat it, they had to help put it away! LOL! But look where it gets me... milky floors.... *sigh*

I'd love a bathroom like that too!

Sauerkraut... yep...... stiiiiiinky!!! My mom didn't know if she should laugh or cry... :tears:
